Typically, we recommend sizing up to the next whole size for our sandals. However, personal preference does come into play here. If you purchase a product and are not happy with the fit, we do offer free exchanges and easy returns.

Most Merrell boots and shoes are made with Vibram® soles containing superior grip, however our winter boots and shoes containing Vibram® Arctic Grip provide unparalleled traction on wet snow and ice during winter's harshest conditions. We have many waterproof options in our hike category although not all of our shoes and boots are waterproof. We do not recommend wearing running shoes for hiking. Typically running shoes will not contain the grip, support, and comfort we build into all of our hiking shoes and boots to keep you safe and happy on the trail. We do offer many styles of hiking, trail running and hybrid shoes and boots on Merrell.com.

You can use snow boots for hiking as long as they are equipped with adequate waterproofing and traction to keep your feet safe and warm. We recommend checking out our boots and shoes with arctic grip on Merrell.com for your most comfortable winter hike.

Our hiking shoes and boots both contain out of the box comfort and ultimate grip, however hiking boots will provide you with additional ankle support over shoes. Please visit merrell.com and see our hiking range, there are many shoe and boot options to get you out on the trail.

If you require two different size shoes, we would recommend contacting the National Odd Shoe Exchange (oddshoe.org) where they can try to match you up with someone to exchange for the correct sizes needed.

In general, we recommend the following guidelines for cleaning footwear:

Cleaning: On a regular basis, brush away any surface dirt with a soft brush. After extended, rugged use, wash with mild soap and warm water. Be sure to rinse off all soap residue to avoid attracting more dirt.

Drying: Open footwear fully, remove the insole and laces and dry at room temperature. Do not expose footwear to heat, as doing so can compromise any adhesives or materials used in constructing your footwear.

Conditioning: Recommended treatment depends on construction and materials of the footwear (some treatments can alter color and appearance).
